Enough periodic tables, already! →

Is there any chance we can call a moratorium on "Periodic table of [anything that isn’t elements]" charts?

I’ve seen too many of late. The periodic table of elements (you know, the useful one) serves a very specific purpose, and even its very clever layout can’t find anything to do with the “f-block” of elements at the bottom, treating the outcasts like maps of the United States treat Alaska and Hawaii.

I understand that you’re capitalizing on the value of referencing a chart that everyone’s seen, but there are more clever ways of visualizing, say, typefaces. Be original.

(Speaking of the periodic table, Slate has a really great series of stories about the periodic table.)
